The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen (all-terrain vehicle) was initially designed as a rugged, light-duty military machine. With its short wheelbase and fold-down windshield, the 250 GD Wolf was a versatile infantry truck that became a staple for armed forces in numerous countries around the world. It would be decades before Mercedes-Benz turned the G-Wagen into the luxury off-roader we know today.

This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 250 GD Wolf was restored and upgraded by Expedition Motor Company of Frenchtown, New Jersey, which specializes in these vehicles. Each transformation reportedly takes over 2,000 hours. This example was painted Sky Blue, and upgrades include a snorkel, suspension lift, BFGoodrich tires, Vintage Air air-conditioning, and a modern radio.

Inside, front and rear bucket seats are wrapped in hand-stitched black upholstery, and rear passengers are treated to an exposed custom wood floor. Under the hood is the 250 GD’s original-style 2.5-liter five-cylinder diesel engine, which is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. This example combines the simplicity and rugged looks of the original military Geländewagens but adds further off-road upgrades and modifications designed to increase comfort and modern usability, making for a distinctive and appealing classic SUV
