This impressively documented Porsche 928 S4 was marked complete by the Stuttgart factory on 18 May 1987, finished in Grand Prix White over a Crimson special leather interior. Equipped with the type “M28/41” 5.0-litre V-8 engine that differentiated the S4 to earlier forms of the 928 with added horsepower, the car was fitted with the desirable five-speed manual gearbox. Its high specification was topped by heated seats and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio. The 928 was delivered new to the United States, where it found its first owner, Mr Larry Schroeder of Eaglewood, Ohio through his local Porsche and Audi dealer, White-Allen. He retained the car for nearly three decades, hanging onto the S4 until 2015 when he sold her to his daughter, Fawn Holloway. Mr Schroeder passed away on 22 July 2016—29 years to the day after buying “Pearl”, the family nickname for the car attributed to its colour. These details were confirmed in writing to the consignor by Larry Schroeder's daughter.
With Fawn as the second keeper, the 928 S4 received a new clutch linkage in 2019 to coincide with a major service. In 2021, the car joined The White Collection—among the most important private Porsche stables in the United States. It was later sold by RM Sotheby’s in December 2023 and, at this point, was acquired by its Germany-based consigning owner, who returned the Porsche to its homeland in January 2024. Upon arrival in Germany, the car was subject to a comprehensive service totalling €23,859 (invoices on file). The car is accompanied by its original owner’s manual and window sticker, invoices spanning 1987–2021, tools, books including pouch and service book issued to the first owner, an air compressor, spare belts, and a door sill kick plate. The odometer read 14,890 miles at the time of cataloguing.
