The Fosse Way Collection comprises nine rare and eclectic motor cars, thoughtfully chosen and carefully maintained by a respected private collector, and each now offered with considerable recent investment.
When Porsche unveiled the 928 at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show, it signalled a bold new direction for Stuttgart. Conceived as a potential successor to the 911, it abandoned the rear-engined, air-cooled formula in favour of a front-mounted, water-cooled V8 driving the rear wheels through a transaxle, giving near-perfect weight distribution. Styled under Anatole Lapine, its smooth, sculpted lines and distinctive pop-up headlamps still look remarkably modern today and, so advanced was the 928, that it was named European Car of the Year in 1978, the only sports car ever to win the award.
Around 240bhp was provided by an all-aluminium 4,474cc V8 while the innovative 'Weissach' rear axle provided a degree of passive rear-wheel steering for exceptional stability. The result was a genuine high-speed 'grand tourer', as comfortable crossing continents as it was on a winding B-road.
This early, right-hand drive example is finished in Silver Metallic with the much sought-after black and white Pasha interior. That chequered fabric is one of the defining design features of the early 928s and is highly prized by enthusiasts today. Fitted with an automatic gearbox that perfectly suits the car's effortless grand touring character, it has covered 100,669 miles and is accompanied by an extensive history file.
Our vendor, a private collector, acquired the car in 2018 and has since lavished considerable care and expense on it. A full mechanical restoration was entrusted to renowned marque specialist Paul Anderson of Porsche 928 Specialists, with over £20,000 invested. Last year, Paul carried out a further service along with any other jobs required, at a cost of over £3,000 and invoices for all of this work are in the history file for interested parties to view.
Attention has been paid to the car's presentation too. The underside has been detailed and rust-proofed, new Wilton carpets have been fitted, the steering wheel has been refurbished and today, the 928 is in fine fettle and ready to be enjoyed.
With its early specification, the much-loved Pasha interior and over £23,000 invested with one of the UK's foremost 928 specialists, this right-hand drive example is an excellent opportunity to own one of Porsche's most significant and forward-thinking designs. Iconic Auctioneers welcome any pre-sale inspection.
