Unveiled at the Nürburgring in 1996, the 550 Maranello was designed to replace the 512 M – the latest iteration of the mid-rear V12 concept – and revived the philosophy that had been set aside since the legendary 365 GTB/4 Daytona. As indicated by a copy of its service history (the original having been lost; a duplicate issued in 2013 by Ferrari Spa Francorchamps), our example was delivered on 28 February 1997 by Ferrari Deutschland to… Ferrari Deutschland! This elegant 550 Maranello, finished in Argento Nürburgring with black leather upholstery, was therefore probably used for promotional purposes by the German importer.
In 2013, the car was purchased by the previous owner from Ferrari Spa Francorchamps. This avid collector (Ferrari 250 GT SWB, AC Cobra, Porsche 935 K3…) and accomplished racing driver (three-time participant in the 24 Hours of Le Mans) kept this Maranello until 2018, when it became part of the current owner’s collection.
Today, our example has just over 52,000 km on the odometer (as verified by the Car Pass and the extensive file of invoices that accompanies it), and has recently undergone extensive work at the GGA garage, including the replacement of the timing belts. Its cosmetic condition is very good, the paintwork is lovely (partly original), and it is in perfect working order, although a change of tyres should be considered.
No fewer than four 550 Maranellos have, this summer, exceeded $600,000... We have long been predicting a future rise in the market, and this example may well be your last chance to acquire one at a reasonable price! This particular car also has the added advantage of low mileage and a unique provenance… so there are no excuses!
