Beschreibung

The BMW E21 was introduced in 1975 as the successor to the much-admired 02 Series and, importantly, became the first model to carry the now-familiar 3 Series name. Combining compact dimensions, excellent build quality and the driver-focused character for which BMW was becoming renowned, the E21 established a formula that would define the marque's sporting saloons for decades. Introduced during 1977, the 320/6 replaced the earlier four-cylinder 320 and was powered by BMW's smooth 1,990cc M20 straight-six engine, fed by a Solex four-barrel carburettor. Its refined six-cylinder soundtrack and relaxed performance made the 320/6 one of the most appealing models within the range.

First registered on 1st April 1980, this right hand drive example is attractively finished in its original beige colour scheme with a complementary beige cloth interior. Remaining notably standard and unrestored, it retains its factory-style multi-spoke alloy wheels, original dashboard, switchgear, carpets and headlining. A JVC CD player and manually adjustable Kenlowe cooling fan are among the few deviations from standard specification.

The odometer currently records approximately 70,600 miles, which is understood to be supported by the accompanying history file. The documentation has been carefully organised and is reported to contain service and maintenance records extending back to the car's early years. The BMW was retained by its previous long-term keeper from September 2008 and has evidently been preserved with considerable care. The bodywork presents well overall, with the arches, sills and underside appearing reassuringly sound. The largely original interior is similarly well preserved, displaying only light wear consistent with the car's age and mileage. A factory steel spare wheel remains within the clean and well-presented luggage compartment.

Mechanically, the car is reported to drive well, with no significant running issues advised. Offered with its substantial history file, this remarkably original 320/6 represents an increasingly uncommon opportunity to acquire an unmodified six-cylinder E21. Practical enough to accommodate four occupants and compact enough for regular use, it should appeal equally as an engaging weekend classic or a charming alternative to a modern daily driver.
