THE BMW R90S 67HP 1974 - The BMW Motorrad R90S was launched in 1973, when the European motorcycle industry was under strong threat from Japan. The Boxer engine that equipped the R90S retained air cooling but had a displacement of 898cc. It was basically an evolution of the R75/5 engine, refined with Dell'Orto carburetors, a redesigned exhaust system to increase power, and a five-speed gearbox to adequately face the competition. Thus, the 67 horsepower produced, very respectable for the time, managed to propel the R90S to an equally exciting top speed of around 200 km/h. The chassis was also improved with the inclusion of dual 260 mm disc brakes at the front and a 200 mm drum brake, and a gross weight of only 215 kg in running order.
