Maserati noticed that the Mexico and Quattroporte were in need of renewal. When the Ghibli was presented to the public, it was very well received. Anticipating the 4-seaters that sold well, Maserati presented the Indy in 1969 with a coach designed by Vignale.

The Indy was first given the 4.2 V8 under the hood and was enlarged twice during the time of production. The beautiful lines of the Vignale coach, the practical advantage of four seats and enough luggage space for a longer ride were we think the reason that the Maserati was sold quite a lot. A total of 1.104 Indy's have been born in 6 years time. In the last two years the last 'update' came out, the Indy 4900.

The name says it all; the engine capacity was increased to a 4.9 litre V8. Maserati also borrowed the hydraulic (and much more powerful) braking system from Citroën and the air conditioning system was greatly improved. Apart from the subcutaneous modifications, the 4900 could also be recognised by a slightly different grill and 'more refined' dashboard.

Our Indy 4900 was completely restored six years ago and is bare metal, body off in the Netherlands. Besides the documentation, there are also pictures available. Only 300 of the 4900 have ever been produced. So if you are looking for a unique, real Italian for the whole family that can also be explained rationally: This is it, with us at the Clubhuys!

Maserati bemerkte, dass Mexiko und Quattroporte erneuerungsbedürftig waren. Als das Ghibli der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt wurde, wurde es sehr gut aufgenommen. Im Vorgriff auf die 4-Sitzer, die sich gut verkauften, schenkte Maserati dem Indy 1969 einen von Vignale entworfenen Reisebus.

Der Indy erhielt zunächst den 4,2 V8 unter der Motorhaube und wurde während der Produktionszeit zweimal vergrößert. Die schöne Linienführung des Wagens von Vignale, der praktische Vorteil von vier Sitzplätzen und genügend Gepäckraum für eine längere Fahrt waren unserer Meinung nach der Grund dafür, dass der Maserati ziemlich viel verkauft wurde. In 6 Jahren wurden insgesamt 1.104 Indy's geboren. In den letzten zwei Jahren erschien das letzte "Update", das Indy 4900.

Der Name ist Programm: Der Hubraum wurde auf einen 4,9-Liter-V8-Motor erhöht. Maserati lieh sich auch das hydraulische (und wesentlich leistungsfähigere) Bremssystem von Citroën und die Klimaanlage wurde stark verbessert. Abgesehen von den subkutanen Modifikationen war der 4900 auch an einem etwas anderen Grill und einem "verfeinerten" Armaturenbrett zu erkennen.

Unser Indy 4900 wurde vor sechs Jahren vollständig restauriert und ist aus blankem Metall, ohne Karosserie in den Niederlanden. Neben der Dokumentation stehen auch Bilder zur Verfügung. Von den 4900 Exemplaren sind nur 300 jemals produziert worden.
