Beschreibung

In 1896, outside of Le Mans, France, Jean Bourgery produced his first bicycle powered by an engine. Some collectors consider Bourgery’s creation to be one of the earliest examples of the motorized bicycle. It is believed that Bourgery built as few as 12 examples from 1896 through 1900, before transitioning to automobile production. Of these 12, only three examples are thought to exist today.

The early history of this Bourgery motorized bicycle is unknown, however, it was acquired by the French collector Pierre Guélon in 1972. The Mullin Collection acquired this unrestored, early motorized bicycle in 2018. This Bourgery is an interesting and significant piece of motoring history which, due to its immense rarity, is not likely to appear for public sale again in the foreseeable future.

*Please note that all of the Lots in this Auction have been in long-term static storage at the Mullin Automotive Museum and may not be currently operational. They will require mechanical attention and in some cases significant restoration prior to any road use.
