No Reserve
In the 1970s, Volkswagen began exploring a replacement for the Beetle convertible. The brand decided to develop a convertible version based on its new compact sedan, the Golf. Launched in 1979, the Golf Cabriolet was designed and assembled by the coachbuilder Karmann. The model enjoyed sustained commercial success, to the point that production continued until 1993 (note: production ended in May 1993 to make way for the Golf III Cabriolet)—ten years after the Golf I sedan was discontinued. In 1987, the convertible underwent a restyling that notably incorporated “Quartet”-style wraparound bumpers and side skirts, designed to modernize its silhouette and bring its appearance more in line with the Golf II.
The vehicle shown here is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine and was first registered in 1989. It features a silver exterior, paired with gray fabric upholstery and a green soft top, and rides on Pirelli-style light-alloy wheels. Imported from Belgium, where it had been since 2015, this car currently has just over 55,600 km on the odometer—a mileage consistent with its overall condition.
This 1989 Volkswagen Golf I Cabriolet stands out for its well-preserved original configuration, combining its silver body, green soft top, and distinctive Pirelli wheels. Recently registered in France following its time in Belgium, it has only 55,600 km on the odometer, making it a fine example representative of Karmann’s production from that era.
