The Volvo P1800e is normally speaking the best of all Volvo P1800’s. The solid injection engine runs just that bit better than the normally aspired carburettor versions. It is also the final version and most developed one of the bunch. The previous owner imported the car from the States in 2015. The person he bought from had intended to carry out a full restoration, but never got round to it. When he realised he was too old to tackle the project, he decided to sell it. The car had stood in a shed since 2000 and clearly was in need of remedial attention. The car was supplied from new in California the United States in 1971. When the car arrived in The Netherlands it was immediately subjected to a full nut & bolt restoration. Basically the car was sound and came with an overdrive, power steering and air-conditioning. The P1800e was completely taken apart and repaired where necessary. The bodywork repairs were all done professionally and the car was brought back to its former glory. The bodywork and chassis are in excellent shape. After all the repairs had been done, the car was taken back to bare metal and re-sprayed in the original finish. The quality of the paintwork forms such a lovely match with the fine bodywork. The attention to detail continued when it came to the car's mechanical aspects. The engine, gearbox and the rest were completely taken apart. Every gasket replaced and every part inspected and replaced if needed. All the engine mounts have been powder coated and given new rubbers. The lightweight rims were taken back to bare metal and re-sprayed and given new tyres. It now also has Koni shock breaker all-round to enhance roadholding. As the main aim was to give the car a “new out of the box” look, all the brightwork and logo's were replaced. It has worked! The interior trim was also completely renewed using fine leather in the original colour. The inside is a good as the outside. Stick your head in the cockpit and the lovely Mota Lita steering wheel immediately draws your attention. On further inspection we see that the previous owner built in a Vintage Air Slimline air-conditioning unit. The progress of the restoration has been recorded by means of a photo album, invoices and parts list. The P1800e is the best of the P1800 generation and this one is one of the best around today.
