Beschreibung

By 1967, the Shelby Mustang evolved into a more powerful, aggressive machine that distanced itself further from the standard Ford Mustang. The GT500 debuted that year, replacing the GT350 as the top-of-the-line Shelby offering. While the GT350 remained small-block powered, the new GT500 featured a 428-cubic-inch Police Interceptor V-8 engine, giving it the kind of brute force that Carroll Shelby believed the market wanted. Rated at 355 horsepower but believed to produce much more in reality, the GT500 was aimed squarely at the growing muscle car audience.

Externally, the GT500 featured fiberglass front and rear body panels, functional scoops, and an extended nose, giving it a more intimidating presence. It rode on 15-inch wheels and came equipped with power front disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension, and dual exhaust. Inside, it retained upscale touches like the wood-rimmed steering wheel and special instrumentation. The Shelby VIN plate and unique serial number further distinguished it from a standard Mustang. Combining big-block muscle, distinctive Shelby styling, and true limited-production status, the 1967 GT500 delivers an unforgettable driving experience. It marks the first year of big-block Shelby Mustangs and the beginning of a bolder, more refined chapter in Shelby American's performance legacy.

In 1967, only a limited number of GT500s were built, making each survivor especially desirable today, such is the case with this great example. Sold new on 10-31-1967 through Nagle Ford, Inc. in Rochester, New York, the original owner of this GT500 was Allen Pilbeam of Shortsville, New York. Living most of its early life in New York, it was eventually sold to a Bill DenBeste of California and remained on the West Coast for a number of years. Retaining its original 428-cubic-inch V-8 engine, this Shelby is the recipient of a multi-year concours-quality restoration that was performed by noted Shelby restoration specialist Tony Conover of Performance Motors of Hanover, LLC. During the resto, this example was finished in Dark Moss Green with white racing stripes. This striking, factory-original color accentuates the car's sculpted fastback profile and aggressive detailing. Inside, the cabin is inlaid with black upholstery and features front bucket seats, a radio, correct roll bar, and glove box compartment signed by the legend himself, Mr. Carroll Shelby.

A resident of the current noted collector's stable for the last five years, this Shelby GT500 has been expertly maintained, well-cared for, and minimally exercised. Since completion of the extensive rotisserie restoration, it is said that this Shelby has not been publicly shown, creating a rare and exciting opportunity for its next caretaker to exhibit, tour, and partake in Shelby American Automobile Club events and judged shows.

Documented in the SAAC Shelby Registry and accompanied by a copy of its build sheet and a Deluxe Marti Report, this concours-restored GT500 stands as a stunning example of one of Shelby's most iconic creations. For collectors seeking authenticity, rarity, and show-level quality in a true big-block Shelby, this remarkable GT500 represents an exciting opportunity to own a cornerstone of American performance history.
