Based on Ford’s Mustang, which was introduced in 1964 to rave reviews, the Shelby GT350 was essentially a purpose-built racing car available to the public at local Ford dealers. Heavily modified at Ford’s behest by Carroll Shelby, the GT350 dominated American sports car racing in the mid-1960s. With famed driver Jerry Titus behind the wheel, it took the 1965 SCCA B-Production National Championship away from Chevrolet’s Corvette, cementing the GT350’s enduring status as a formidable competitor, both on and off the track.
