William I’Anson Ltd are delighted to announce for sale this 1965 Shelby Cobra 289 Continuation to FIA Specification.

Built in 2020 by renowned historic motor racing specialists, Gelscoe Motorsport, known for their Ford GT40’s, this Shelby Cobra 289 was commissioned by a Danish client, and was built to their highest of standards using the best quality components to ensure both period accuracy and competitive performance.

The chassis and body were supplied by North Devon Metalcraft with the body finished in a striking a Viking Blue by Normandale Ltd. It is powered by a period-correct Steve Warrior built, Ford 289 V8, mated to a T10 gearbox and Salisbury differential, all with minimal mileage. Initially raced in just one event in Denmark, the car was acquired by its current owner back in 2022. Under its new ownership, it has been entered into the last two editions of the Silverstone Festival in both 2023 and 2024, demonstrating a strong performance in a highly competitive field in the hands of Andy Priaulx and Miles Griffiths.

In 2023, this Cobra was the first non-Daytona-spec Cobra to to cross the line, qualifying 12th overall with a lap time of 2:26.1. Prior to the 2024 event, it underwent performance enhancements by Hi-Tech Motorsport including a full geometry report carried out by Nigel Rees of GSD Race Dyn and later a bespoke exhaust system, resulting in an improved lap time in qualifying of 2:25.1 in 2024.

Highly eligible for historic GT events such as Motor Racing Legends, Masters, Peter Auto and GTSCC, the Cobra is also accompanied a UK V5C road registration and FIA HTP’s valid until 2031. This makes it not only a competitive car on track but also one that opens up the doors to the Modena Centro Ore and the Tour Auto.
