This is the car that put Saab on the map. The Saab 96 was an utter sales success. From 1960 to 1980 Saab was able to shift no less than half a million 96 cars. This blue Saab 96 is a series 1 from 1962. It is a so-called Short-nose Saab 96. The Short-nose has its radiator placed against the cowl panel in contrast to modern cars. We have been able to source this wonderfully conditioned car in its native Sweden. The car has been fully restored. The bodywork is in great shape with nice and thin, correctly aligned panelwork. The resprayed blue paintwork is in wonderful condition. The interior trim has been completely reupholstered whilst keeping it authentic. It is not only a good looking car it is also fantastic to drive. The car has a 841cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine. It brings its 38 horsepower to the wheels via a manual three-speed gearbox. As with any two-stroke engine, this engine is exceptionally responsive to the gas pedal. It feels like there is far more power available than the 38 Ps it has on paper. In the past the Saab 96 was regularly involved in rallies, winning quite a few along the way. In the long roll of honour, one should not forget the Monte Carlo Rally victory of “mister Saab” himself: Eric Carlsson. Whist this Saab is not one of the rally prepared cars, it is none the less a very fine car to drive. Whilst behind the wheel you really get to appreciate the wonderful balance of the car. We now live in an age where it is no longer possible to buy a two-stroke moped, making buying this two-stroker car a far more exciting proposition. This is a splendid piece of automotive history in a “ready-to-go” condition!
