When it came time to revamp its Silver Cloud for the 1960s, Rolls-Royce had big things in mind. Gone was the outgoing straight six, and in its place was a new, in-house 6.2-liter V-8. Though the new Silver Cloud II was heavier, it produced more power and was lauded for its improved in-town performance. Period testing revealed a top speed over 105 mph as well as 0-60 mph times just over 10 seconds. Though the car’s design clearly looks to Rolls-Royce’s past, the Silver Cloud II’s performance allows it to keep up with modern traffic. Just over 2,400 examples were built during a short run before Rolls-Royce moved toward the quad headlamp arrangement that lasted, at least in concept, into the 20th century.

Saloon, coupe, and drophead coupe versions of the Silver Cloud II were offered, the latter of course delivering the most evocative lines, especially when paired with the longer 127-inch wheelbase. Heritage Classics of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, spent decades carving out a niche by converting hardtops into drophead coupes with a level of precision that emulates Crewe’s own efforts.

This recently repainted and reupholstered white over red leather example bears Heritage’s signature cues and is equipped with an electrically operated convertible top as well as a matching boot cover. Inside, red leather hides in the original style are paired with thick carpets and burl wood with inlays. Rear-seat picnic tables provide comfort for all occupants. Equipment includes amenities such as power windows and air conditioning, which help pair its classic styling with modern comfort. Recent service included a brake system overhaul extending to the master cylinder and servo as well as repair of the window regulators. A rebuilt four-speed automatic transmission makes the most of the 6.2-liter V-8, which has had a major service performed and its carburetors tuned up.

This Silver Cloud II drophead coupe conversion represents a perfect touch of classic styling. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/0120.
