On behalf of the wealthy first owner, Bentley brought the chassis to coachbuilder Hooper. In the 1950s, these very luxurious aluminium bodies became more bold and more flamboyant with vaulted wings which became known as the ‘Empire line’. This is body style nr. 8430 of which only 38 were built of which 7 are in the long wheelbase version. All made entirely of aluminium and built entirely by hand. Larger and much more expensive than the ‘standard’ sheet metal Silver Cloud and Bentley S series.

The car was used in its original form until 1968. After which it was converted including a rare aluminium Rolls-Royce Phantom front. Rolls-Royce badges, hubcaps and valve cover were also fitted back then. This was done in a truly magnificent manner and there’s not another one like it! This car is discussed in various specialised Rolls-Royce reference works (see pictures). With its suicide doors and mighty appearance, it looks a lot like the Phantom Type 5 from the 60s by James Young.

The car’s entire history is known including its owners and the maintenance. The last owner had the car for over 28 years and participated among others in the prestigious RREC Rally in Althorp Park in 1994 and 1998.

The car has a valid Belgian Bentley registration certificate. The aluminium body was sprayed at least 30 years ago and the lacquer still looks neat. The chrome is magnificent as well! Technically the car is in very good. A lot has been renewed - which is demonstrable -including a total brake overhaul, front suspension, petrol pump, leaf springs, the suspension, stainless steel exhaust system and the engine has been well maintained. The engine and automatic 4-speed gearbox are matching and the car is equipped with power steering. The interior still has the original woodwork and the original Connolly leather interior. Of course, after 62 years, traces of wear and ageing can be found but it is still authentic!

A folder is available which contains lots of old history concerning this car including correspondence between owner, suppliers and Hooper. Also included are 2 keys.
