Not only was it cheaper, but the CS was also inspirationally good to drive. Porsche had set their sights on creating a car tailored for the driving enthusiast and, in particular, one with competition potential.

This was achieved by removing all luxury-orientated equipment from the basic build specification, for example, less sound deadening material was used and the electric windows were replaced with hand wound units. In addition, Porsche installed manually adjustable, lightweight Recaro racing seats rather than the standard power-operated, leather buckets, and revised suspension optimized and lowered by 20mm, with 17-inch wheels also helped the quest for lightness and crisp handling. With the no-frills approach, less weight, and clever suspension, Porsche could now focus media attention on the Club Sport's fast road and track abilities, and the CS achieved a 'Performance Car Of The Year' award in 1993 from Performance Car magazine in the UK. In total, just 1,923 units were produced, of which only 179 were right-hand drive, making the Club Sport a very rare Porsche indeed.

Offered here is a 1994 Porsche 968 Sport competition car which was built from an original UK-supplied, right-hand drive example. An invoice in the file shows that respected marque specialist Autofarm corrected an oil leak in 2015 and carried out some other minor work totalling £860. Our vendor bought the car later that year and sent it to EMC Engines of Birmingham who prepared the car for circuit racing with work totalling £5,750:

- Steel fuel lines
- New discs all round with Pagid brake pads
-New Aeroquip brake lines
-Rebuilt all 4 Gaz shocks
-New windscreen
-New race seat and 6-point harnesses
- Carbon door cards
-4 new Dunlop DZ03G tyres
-All new fluids and filters.

Work commitments have meant our vendor has only had time to complete one race at Brands Hatch since, and so the car is now ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. Also included in the sale is a covered trailer and a spare set of wheels. We suggest all prospective bidders please satisfy themselves as to the currency and legality of all safety equipment on this 968. The perfect candidate for the ‘Modern Classics' championship run by the Classic & Sports Car Club, this little Porsche racer is now ready for a busy 2018 season.
