Beschreibung

Show restoration with $76,000 in receipts.

The Porsche 914 was an early collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen to explore the parameters of a low cost sports car in the spirit of the early four-cylinder 912. While the 914’s squared up, 1970s styling might not reflect the 912’s elegant lines, there was much to like beneath the surface with the 914’s proven flat-four engine, mid-engine location, weight that tipped the scales right around 2,000 lbs. and an affordable price.

Introduction of the 2.0-liter, 110 hp six-cylinder 914-6 transformed the affordable sports car into a mid-engine rival to the 911T, however, although with little difference between the prices of the two. The price difference alone may have accounted for the small production of only 3,360 914-6s. Those few who appreciated the 914-6’s merits, however, enjoyed a highly predictable sports car with phenomenal handling.

Among them were Peter Gregg and Hurley Haywood who very successfully raced 914-6s in 1970-1971 and won the first IMSA GT Series Championship in 1971. The 914-6 has been described as the ‘Forgotten Porsche’, but forgotten only by those who have never driven the car. Today, the 914-6 has an avid following including both collectors and historic racers.
