Beschreibung

Unveiled for the European market in 1975, the Porsche 930 was Porsche’s first take at a turbocharged street car. Producing a groundbreaking 265 bhp, it was equipped with a single KKK turbocharger, using technology that was previously used in their famed 917/30 Can-Am racing cars. Power from the single turbocharger kicked in rather abruptly at approximately 3,000 rpm, which lent the 930 its “widow maker” nickname. Along with its performance, it featured flared fenders and the iconic “whale tail,” which created additional downforce.

In 1976 – the first year the 930, bearing the nameplate “Turbo Carrera,” was in the US – approximately 500 were built. This example, chassis 500, is a distinct example equipped without a sunroof and finished in the unique color combination of Silver Metallic over Rosette leather. While its early history is unknown, at some point it was acquired by professional baseball player Jose Escobar of the Cleveland Indians.

Now offered from a notable Porsche collection, this 930 was purchased by the current owner as a rolling chassis from dC Automotive in North Carolina. Professionally restored, it has received a comprehensive repaint, and a fully reupholstered leather interior. In addition, a full mechanical overhaul has taken place, with a fresh replacement type 911/52 engine and four-speed manual transaxle fitted. This first-year model provides an incredible opportunity to own the original turbocharged Porsche sports car, as if it just rolled off the showroom floor.
