Few cars have worn the hot hatchback crown quite as comfortably as the Peugeot 205 GTI. Launched in 1984, it paired a light, handsome three-door body with a free-revving 1.6-litre engine and a chassis that rewarded commitment in a way its rivals rarely matched. The 1.9-litre version arrived in late 1986 and was naturally slightly more powerful, however, many enthusiasts still consider the 1.6 the purer of the two.

Introduced in September 1987, the Phase 1.5 cars featured the upgraded 115bhp 1.6-litre engine, a new smooth-edged dashboard layout with rotary dials, a three-spoke steering wheel, upgraded interior seat fabrics, and fully galvanised bodies but crucially retained the classic exterior look with the amber indicators and tiered taillights.

The superb example seen here is finished in Graphite Grey (Gris Graphite) with the familiar red coachline and a classic GTi interior with French Grey trim, Monaco Tweed cloth and vibrant red carpets. Supplied new by Warwick Wright Motors of Edgware Road in London, G467 XLE was first registered on 11th August 1989 to IMS International of Euston Road, presumably for a very lucky employee. It remained with them, lightly used judging by the mileage, for almost a decade with early servicing carried out by Wright Holloway, Chingford Autos and B.A.S. Tottenham with surviving invoices alongside the service book which is stamped until December 1998 at 21,454 miles. Thereafter, MOT certificates from 1998 indicate further light use, documenting just 22,630 miles by August 2007. 
 
Our vendor had been looking for a low-mileage 205 GTi for some time and acquired this car in May of 2025 with the intention of returning it to top form. Maidstone Sports Cars were instructed to commence the recommissioning process with the emphasis on retaining originality. Work and parts included a water pump and timing belt kit, a new fuel pump, fuel filter and a pair of rigid underbody fuel pipes, front brake discs and Bendix pads, new brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake shoe fitting kit, stainless steel front door striker pins and an oil service with new filters, spark plugs and sump plug.
 
Cosmetic attention included replacement door moulding trims, a boot insulation mat and red 205 GTI monograms from French specialist Une DeSauvée, and a complete set of correct Quartet seat covers from the same source. Lastly we are informed the mechanical work was complemented by a sympathetic full body respray in its original Gris Graphite (£6,000 - 1/06/2026) complete with a set of period correct Warwick Wright number plates.
 
Accompanying the car are its original Peugeot wallet, maintenance booklet and warranty card bearing the supplying dealer's stamp, handbooks, a period Company Car user manual, invoices and paperwork detailing the recommissioning, some early MOT certificates and the most recent on 7th August 2026 at 22,862 miles.
