Beschreibung
"The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort.
This Mercedes-Benz Pagoda was originally registered in 1964 in the US but imported to the UK from Florida in 2008 before the car was then sold through Historics in February 2012 as a restoration project. The car you see here today is the, almost finished, culmination of a specialist restoration programme that has been taking place ever since; however, due to current conditions, the client is struggling to complete this process and has asked Historics to find a new custodian to finish the car in the manner he envisaged. With the most difficult part of the body restoration indeed complete, the burgundy paintwork which matches the supplied colour from new is now excellent as is the new carpeting and delightful retrimming of the interior. We are informed that this manual example was fully running prior to being dismantled for restoration and that the engine is turning and not seized. Other parts completed include the suspension work, brake-lines and calipers amongst others. The car is accompanied by an impressive host of parts which we are informed should complete the restoration and includes the injector pumps and ancillaries. Viewing is highly recommended of this desirable left hand drive manual version which is offered to auction at an extremely realistic price. This is the perfect project to finish and register as the new owner ready for a European tour – once restrictions are lifted, of course.
