1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster

Single Ownership Provenance | Full Matching Numbers & Colors | Original 1960 Title

An exceptional, Concours level single owner from new 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster presented in its factory-correct combination of deep Black over a warm Beige leather interior.

Featuring complete mechanical and cosmetic matching numbers, its original factory hardtop, and a rare fitted luggage set, this example stands as one of the purest and most traceable 300 SL Roadsters available today.

MODEL HISTORY & HERITAGE
Introduced at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show, the 300 SL Roadster was the open-top successor to the legendary Gullwing Coupé. Designed at the urge of legendary American importer Max Hoffman, the Roadster refined the race-bred DNA of the W198 platform into a sophisticated, high-speed grand tourer.

Engineered with a redesigned spaceframe chassis, the Roadster featured lowered sills for traditional swing doors, a revised rear axle geometry for dramatically improved handling, and the iconic 3.0-liter inline-six engine with mechanical direct fuel injection—a world-first engineering triumph derived from the 300 SLR race car.

By 1960, the model represented the absolute pinnacle of automotive luxury and performance, capable of speeds exceeding 130 mph.

PROVENANCE & RESTORATION HISTORY
Origins & Engineering Excellence
Delivered brand new in Frankfurt in 1960, the car was acquired by the founder and owner of Frankfurt’s premier industrial electromechanics firm. Maintained in-house by elite industrial engineers, the vehicle remained in singular family ownership for decades.

Expert Restoration (2005–2008) the car underwent a comprehensive, ground-up restoration executed by the original owner’s specialized engineering team with personal support and oversight from Hannes, the renowned chief mechanic of HK Engineering.

Preservation & Current State
Following the passing of the original owner, the vehicle was acquired by its current custodian. It has covered just 3,700 kilometers since the restoration's completion. Crucially, the vehicle was never re-registered following its initial 1960 Frankfurt registration, making its original German vehicle title (Kraftfahrzeugbrief) from 1960 an irreplaceable centerpiece of its historic documentation.

In July 2026, the car received a fresh service by HK Engineering, ensuring it remains in turnkey mechanical condition.
