The 300 SL Roadster of the series W 198 II offered here was delivered on 22.08.1957 to the Mexican consulate in Stuttgart. It presents itself today in silver gray metallic (180) and black leather (953), the engine, gearbox, chassis and body are matching numbers.

The roadster was driven by the Mexican consul in Stuttgart and in Geneva until the end of the sixties. After that the car was registered by a gentleman north of Lausanne (about 70 km away from Geneva) with the registration number VD 166 192. On 24.07.1975 it was then acquired by a lady from Hamburg and imported from Switzerland to Germany. On 08.12.1978 it was finally registered to her.

About two years later, on 03.05.1980, the ownership changed to a well-known German architect, to whom it was registered on 28.10.1980. At this time, the 300 SL Roadster had a mileage of about 28,000 km. The car remained in his possession for about 22 years, from this time there are invoices with a total value of about 200,000 DM, which document the completed work on this vehicle over the years. At a speedometer reading of 34.721 km on 07.12.1983 the speedometer was set to 0 km. Since then, the kilometers have been consistently documented based on the available invoices.

In 2003 it was purchased by the current owner. Since then the 300 SL has been regularly driven on rides and international rallies and otherwise stood dry and well cared for in the collection. Many invoices since the purchase prove the careful care, which is continuously confirmed by several appraisals with the grade 1-.

Thanks to a thorough maintenance and regular service it is in a good condition without any repair backlog. The engine runs very clean and the transmission shifts without problems. The hardtop in body color and the black 3-piece luggage set complete the good overall impression.

History of the series
------------------------
The 300 SL Roadster celebrated its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1957. Just like its predecessor, the Roadster was the initiative of Max Hoffmann. As with the Gullwing, the tubular lattice frame was the load-bearing element, although it was significantly modified in the area of the doors and rear. Space was gained for a usable trunk and hinged doors for much more convenient entry.

The rear axle became a single-joint swing axle with compensating spring, resulting in improved handling characteristics and increased comfort. In March 1961, the air-cooled drum duplex brakes were replaced by modern disc brakes, and a year later a revised engine (M 198 III) with an alloy cylinder block was fitted.
