Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman was a British designer, founder of Lotus Cars and team principle of Team Lotus. Colin Chapman’s idea was to keep cars as light as possible. The first Lotus to be built was the 1948 Lotus Mark I. In 1952 Colin Chapman started his own car brand under the Lotus Engineering name. The Mark IV was built and developed as the first road going Lotus. Between 1976 and 2004 the Lotus Esprit saw the light of day in various guises. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro it premiered at the 1972 Turin auto-salon. Our example is one of the 3rd series Esprits and registered in 1981 for the first time. The car still has German registration and belonged to a gentleman who enjoyed driving a lot and used it all over Europe. You might think he was someone who enjoyed a challenge, however nothing could be further from the truth. Because the car received all it needed and certainly deserved, holidays were always trouble-free and the Lotus behaved in a most un-English fashion. Invoices show that over last five years for instance over € 10,000.- was spent in car maintenance. The original owner’s manual as well the original keys are still present. This car drives and changes gear superbly. Everything is in correct working order. The original interior trim is in good used condition. In the past the car was re-sprayed for cosmetic reasons. Although fine the paintwork is not in concourse condition. Naturally there are no signs of rust.
