Few motoring enthusiasts will argue against the belief that the Land Rover is one of the most celebrated vehicles in history. From its humble beginnings as an all-purpose military vehicle, it became an icon of British culture, defying social class to be equally cherished by hard-working farmers to Queen Elizabeth herself.
The Series III, produced between 1971 and 1985, remains widely popular among collectors for its mechanical refinements and rugged, go-anywhere character. This 1981 Series III 88-inch convertible was the subject of a high-quality cosmetic restoration performed by a Netherlands-based specialist at the behest of its previous owner. As part of the project, the body was refinished in this classic shade of Marine Blue and refitted with proper galvanized trim and updated with color-matched steel wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. The cabin was retrimmed in attractive light cream upholstery including the dash top and dual side-facing jump seats – although the current German registration allows just two passengers. Updates include a wood-rimmed steering wheel, restored Smith gauges, and a custom center console housing a Bluetooth-enabled Marshall sound system. Power comes from the legendary 2.25-liter petrol inline-four, originally rated at a modest 75 PS but renowned for its durability.
Beautifully presented and with appealing upgrades, this Land Rover is ready for open-air adventure along wooded trails, runs to the local village, or work on the farm or vineyard.
