"THE CAT IS BACK," Jaguar announced at the world premiere of the XK on March 7, 1996, in Geneva. It was a long-awaited sports car model that Jaguar was presenting.
The successor to the long-produced XJS is available with the new 4-liter AJ-V8 engine as a coupe or two-door convertible. For cost and time reasons, the new model is based on the platform of the old XJS, while the body looks completely different. It features a retro style and is again based on the E-Type of the 1960s. This makes the XK8 appear more delicate than its predecessor, but also more dynamic. Another E-Type reference is the air vents on the hood. The interior is no less classically designed, with nothing reminiscent of its predecessor, the XJS.
In 1998, the supercharged version was added, transforming the XK8 into the XKR. The XKR, in particular, combines powerful performance (0-100 km/h in approximately 5 seconds) with plenty of comfort and enough space for a comfortable four-passenger ride. 395 hp and 553 Nm of torque ensure superior power reserves in every situation. The CATS suspension, which uses adaptive shock absorbers to adapt to the road surface in milliseconds, thus providing optimal contact with the road, also helps.
In its first year of production, the new XK sold over 14,500 units, surpassing the best annual sales of its predecessor, the XJS.
