1968 Honda S800
Collector's registration document
Chassis no. 001006784
- Owned by an enthusiastic couple for over 30 years
- A motorcycle in car format
Introduced in 1966, the Honda S800 coupes and convertibles caused a sensation. They went on sale in 1967. The successor to the Japanese firm's main business, the S800 was powered by a motorcycle engine, a 791 cc four-cylinder unit developing 78 horsepower at 8,500 rpm! Lightweight, weighing between 720 and 780 kilograms, it was an extremely pleasant car to drive, with crisp acceleration enhanced by a sound that was unusual in the automotive world. The S800's mechanics were all the more enjoyable because the chassis was particularly modern for its time, with independent front wheels guided by a rack and pinion and a rear axle with a Panhard rod and coil springs. Only 11,406 units were produced between 1967 and 1970, a quarter of which were delivered to France, a resounding success explained by the Honda's ability to perform as well as the R8 Gordini, while being the cheapest coupé on the market. The model we are offering for sale was registered on 27 August 1968. In the hands of an enthusiastic couple since 1991, the car was purchased in memory of the first new car (a Honda S800!) bought by the gentleman in 1968. Wanting it in red when he ordered it, he had to settle for a white one after more than six months of waiting and an additional two thousand francs. When it was purchased in 1991, the engine had just been rebuilt by the VAN PE garage in Chilly Mazarin, a leading HONDA specialist. (no invoice) All the chrome has been redone by Ets P.A.L. in Argenteuil, as well as the paintwork. Inside, the seats have also been reupholstered and new carpets have been purchased from Mickael ORTMANN in Germany. (no invoice) The car is in good condition, and the interior has a beautiful patina. It has been test driven and performed well. The stainless steel exhaust gives it a very pleasant sound. This is a great opportunity to acquire a rare car that is fun to drive, agile and has an intoxicating sound!
