To commemorate its 100-year anniversary, Ford was in search of special projects to celebrate the best moments in the automaker’s history. Under the direction of J Mays, Camilo Pardo designed the GT40 concept car to pay homage to Ford’s 1-2-3 sweep of Le Mans in 1966 and the automaker’s consecutive victories from 1967 through 1969. Unveiled at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show, the concept car received an overwhelming reaction, making Ford’s decision to release a limited-production model an easy one.

From the outset, the Ford GT was destined to be a true American supercar. Based on a lightweight aluminum space frame with aluminum bodywork, mid-mounted 550 hp, 5.4-liter 32-valve supercharged DOHC V-8, and Ricardo six-speed transaxle, the new GT’s power was staggering. With outstanding mid-engine handling characteristics, ferocious braking, and Ford reliability, the GT outperformed many of its supercar contemporaries.

This 2006 Ford GT presents a sophisticated and stealth-like appearance in rare “stripe-delete” black with black leather interior. A US-specification car initially delivered to a New Jersey Ford dealership, the car was exported to Japan and became part of a large private collection. It was subsequently imported to the US and purchased by the consignor in 2017. Equipped with optional forged aluminum wheels and red painted calipers, it showed just 1,344 miles at the time of cataloguing. Offered with owner’s manuals, and upgraded Pioneer stereo and navigation system, this striking “stripe-delete” Ford GT is an opportunity to own a low-mileage, high-horsepower American icon.
