Beschreibung

Ford’s long awaited ‘droop snoot’ RS 2000 was launched at the Earls Court show of October 1975. It was the most luxurious of the sporting Escorts of the time. Powered by an updated version of the 2.0-litre OHC Pinto unit, with a four into two exhaust manifolds coupled to a big bore exhaust system it produced 110bhp. This propelled the RS2000 from 0-60mph in just 8.5 secs and onto a top speed of 110mph.

The 1980 Ford Escort RS2000 Custom offered here at Autostorico is finished in Solid Black with Beige Beta cloth interior trim. Having been purchased by its current owner a lifelong Ford enthusiast in 2017, who had been searching for a solid car with as many original panels as possible (still retaining its original sills and floor). He then undertook a no expense spared restoration. Works started with the car being stripped included removing the engine and gearbox and stripping the whole body, before a bare metal respray. The car was also subject to a full mechanical overhaul including some sympathetic upgrades. The engine has been fully rebuilt by Vulcan Engineering using a 205 block with a 2.1 big valve head, RL32 cam, ported. Weber carburettor modified for Pinto use 38 DGAS with manual choke and period Janspeed 4 branch manifold and exhaust system. The gearbox is a 5 speed (original 4 speed box is still with the car) Attention then moved to the braking, which are new 2.8i Capri vented calipers and discs with new braided brake lines. The suspension system has all been re-newed with the front being GRP1 ‘909’ Bilstein front struts with 225lb springs with roller bearing top mounts. The rear 145lb single leaf springs with Bilstein shocks.
Other highlights include; All original correct date stamped matching alloy wheels, Interior re-trimmed by Aldridge Trimming in the correct Beta cloth. Rare Group 1 three spoke RS steering wheel (original with car) NOS genuine Cibie headlights, Original glass except a replaced windscreen, New door seals and window rubbers and original lockset with 2 keys.
