Beschreibung
"The Ford Escort Mk. I was introduced in the UK at the end of 1967 and replaced the long and successful production run of the Anglia. The success enjoyed by the Ford Motor company with the Lotus Cortina was the catalyst for fitting the same mechanics in the Escort to create the Escort Twin Cam. In spite of a short production run between 1968 and 1971, this car went on to achieve victories in a number of international rallies and races. The Australian manufactured version of the Escort Twin Cam used the same bodyshell and engine as the UK car but was assembled at the Ford plant in Sydney. One of the significant differences in the car from 'down under' was the availability of the full range of colours in the Ford palette, compared to only being able to order Ermine White in the home market. In total just 883 Escort Twin Cams were built before production ended to make way for the RS1600.
We are pleased to offer, from a private collector’s estate, this road specification Escort Twin Cam. This well travelled Ford was built in Sydney, Australia and later exported to Auckland, New Zealand before finally being registered in the UK in August 2002. An inspection of the history file reveals that, as well as a body restoration, the engine was modified to a Ford 1700cc unit with a lightened and balanced crankshaft and the addition of twin Weber carburettors. AKE 150J presents extremely well in Copper Red and is complemented by a standard specification interior which is in good order. The history file accompanying this car contains a V5C registration document, an original owner’s handbook and an Escort Twin Cam supplementary workshop manual. With its non UK colour and Weber carburettors, this Escort both looks and sounds the part and will certainly stand out from the crowd."
