The story of this 550 Barchetta is inextricably linked to its first owner: Jorge Carnicero. An investment banker and serial car enthusiast based in McLean, Virginia, Carnicero maintained an enviable collection of Ferraris and Porsches over the years, reaching all the way back to 1972 when he was the original owner of a 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta. After this 550 Barchetta, he’d go on to own both an Enzo and a LaFerrari.

By 2001, Carnicero was a well-established client with Ferrari, and when it came to ordering his 550 Barchetta, he was allowed a handful of options that were not available to the average buyer. These included Michael Schumacher’s ‘MS’ logo on the backrest of both the driver and passenger seat, leather trim for the armrest on the transmission tunnel in between the drivers and passenger seat, an upgraded sound system and a unique driver’s door sill plaque reading “To Jorge”, signed by then Chairman of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo.

This highly personalized 550 Barchetta was completed by Ferrari in July 2001, with delivery taking place at Ferrari of Washington following in September. Carnicero would go on to own his 550 Barchetta for just over a decade, displaying it at several high-profile Ferrari events including the Cavallino Classic 20, where the car picked up a Platinum Award in 2011. He returned to Palm Beach for Cavallino Classic 21 in January the following year, where the car was awarded La Coppa per Dodici Cilindri, for the most Outstanding 12-Cylinder Ferrari.

The 550 Barchetta was eventually sold by Carnicero in 2013, when it was traded in as partial payment for his incoming LaFerrari. That same year, the car was granted Ferrari Classiche certification, confirming that it is finished in its original colors and retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork. The Ferrari was then acquired by its second owner, who kept it until 2018. Having covered just 350 since new, the 550 Barchetta was imported to British Columbia, Canada by its next owner, where it would reside until 2023, when it was reimported to the United States. It has remained in Florida ever since.

Invoices on file from Ferrari of Palm Beach in January 2024 show that the car received a two year service including the fitment of twelve new spark plugs. At the same time, the car’s timing belts were replaced, some repairs to the fuel system, a new windshield was fitted and some minor interior repairs were carried out alongside recovering the suede dash binnacle. This work came to a total cost of $44,493.61, and the car has driven just one mile since. Later that year, some further work was carried out at Ferrari of Palm Beach which included adjusting the right rear muffler and fitting a new air conditioning compressor, which totaled to $10,138.85. Both invoices are available to view in the car’s history file.

Today, this remarkable Ferrari is showing just 471 miles from new, ranking it among the lowest mileage 550 Barchettas in existence. It presents in exceptional condition both inside and out and is covered by full-body paint protection film. With its exceptionally low mileage, fabulous cosmetic condition, and suite of unique features, this is a car that should appeal to collectors seeking the very best of the best.
