Launched in 1994 as the final evolution of the vaunted Testarossa, the F512 M, for Modificata, represents the last mid-engine production Ferrari to feature the marque’s legendary horizontally opposed 12-cylinder engine. As the culmination of one of Maranello’s most celebrated lineages, the F512 M benefited from a host of refinements over its predecessor. Extensive internal engine upgrades, including titanium connecting rods, lightened components, and increased compression, elevated output to an impressive 440 horsepower, a notable improvement over the preceding 512 TR. Of the 501 F512 M examples produced globally, a mere 75 were destined for the United States market, making these unique few an elite subset representing not only the most technologically refined Testarossa, but also the rarest.
The car on offer, chassis 103807, is an exceptionally collectible example, distinguished as the final US-specification F512 M imported to the United States by serial number. Assembled in December 1995, this historic example left Maranello finished as it is today in a livery befitting its significance: Giallo Modena (102) over Blu Scuro (3282) trim and equipped with the rarely seen, and über-supportive carbon fiber sport seats.
Following its arrival stateside, the car was sold new via Ferrari of San Francisco, reportedly to a prominent Ferrari Challenge client, and is believed to have remained in California prior to the consignor’s acquisition in 2007. Under their careful stewardship, chassis 103807 has seen minimal use and meticulous care, evidenced by its accompanying service invoices and 15,066 miles displayed at cataloguing. In 2016, the car received Ferrari Classiche certification confirming the presence of its numbers-matching chassis, body, engine, and gearbox, as well as suspension and braking systems and Speedline alloy wheels of the original type. At a point following its Classiche certification, a polished Tubi Style competition exhaust was installed in place of the original factory system, which is preserved and included in the sale.
In 2024, chassis 103807 was treated to a major service with cam belt replacement by Norwood Auto Italia of Carrollton, Texas. Accompanying invoices document almost $19,000 in work, including: New cam belts, tensioners, seals, valve adjustment, water pump seal, hydraulic flush, and air conditioning service. It is now offered with factory books, tools, car cover, service invoices, and Ferrari Classiche Red Book.
Rightfully regarded as the most desirable evolution of both the modern Testarossa series and the entire lineage of Ferrari’s flat-12s, this F512 M, sporting a striking livery, low mileage, and Ferrari Classiche certification, ticks every box for the discerning tifosi seeking the ultimate expression of Maranello’s mid-engine twelve-cylinder legacy. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/auctions/mo25/.
