This Ferrari Daytona is one of the earliest ‘pop-up’ headlight examples built, having rolled off the production line on 20 January 1971. While Ferrari does not individually log the headlamp setup in its build records for Daytonas, a salesman at Auto Becker—the supplying dealer—recalls seeing this Daytona arrive at the showroom. He recalled that a client from Cologne had specially ordered the car in the fantastic and exceedingly rare colour combination of Viola Dino Metallizzato over White Connolly leather.

By 1980, the car had been repainted red, re-trimmed in black, and was owned by Swiss enthusiast, Gustav K. Maurer, who retained the car for near-on 25 years before selling to a German car dealer in August 2004. Chassis 14071 was later acquired by the consigning owner, and today is accompanied by a leather folio with owner’s manual. Upon inspection, this Ferrari was found to retain its matching-numbers engine. In November 2023 Forza Service in the Netherlands returned this Daytona to running order, however, this Ferrari will require recommissioning prior to road use.

An early pop-up example, this Daytona boasts its matching-numbers engine and an enviable original specification of Viola Dino Metallizzato—a return to which would surely make it stand out from the crowd.
