British title, FIA papers - The only Daytona with period racing history in Asia - Mechanical rebuild by GTO Engineering - Fantastic car for the best events. The history of this Ferrari Daytona makes particularly interesting reading. It is the only 365 GTB/4 to have been raced in South East Asia in Club events. Imported into Singapore by Yeo Kian Peng, who worked for the Ferrari and Lamborghini distributor Wing Ming Auto, it remained unregistered until 1979. Before then, its owner employed temporary plates, using the car solely for competition and exhibiting it in his showroom. The Daytona took part in several races organised by the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register, the Singapore Motor Sports Club including the Kallang sprint, the Dover Kilo and the Pasir Gudang, driven by its owner and Ivor Thevathasan. As these were not FIA-regulated events and there was no Group 4 category, the car remained in its original configuration and the engine alone would have been specially prepared. The car then passed into the hands of Peter Kwee who maintained it in his collection. During this period, the car would have been given to the Customer Support department at Maranello for preparation work. It was sold in 1986 to Stanley Long, well known for his collection of racing cars. He continued to compete in competitions organised by the Singapore Motor Sports Association, the Johor Motor Club and the Classic Car Club of Hong Kong on the Pasir Gudang and Kelab circuits, as confirmed by Nick Leong, the son of Stanley Long who died in 2012. At the end of the 1990s, following an accident, the car was re-built to Group 4 specifications by James W.F. Leong (no relation of the owner), of Ah Chow Motor Company. Several years later, in 2001, after an engine fire, the body was repaired in Singapore, before the car was sent to England, in 2003, to GTO Engineering, for a complete mechanical re-build. In 2007, it returned to Singapore to take its place in Stanley Leong's collection once more. It was not used between 2007 and 2011 and in 2012, the car was bought by Paul Coombes, of SVS Ltd, and sent to England where it was registered. In November 2012 it joined the collection of the current owner. Having had a racing career, the mileage has remained extremely low and records just 19,500 miles today. With its rather unusual history, superb Group 4 preparation and FIA document, this rare Daytona is eligible for the most prestigious historic events. Who knows, perhaps a shrewd Asian collector will want to return the car to where it enjoyed its finest exploits.
