In late 1964, an unusual gap developed in Ferrari’s luxury model line, as the last of the 250 GT Lusso examples were completed. With only the über-exclusive 500 Superfast in production, Maranello lacked a civilized mid-range grand tourer that had no designs on racing. Passionate devotees of the Lusso were duly rewarded in March 1966, when Ferrari used the Geneva Salon to introduce the 330 GTC, a new luxury grand touring coupe that successfully integrated aspects of several other models in the Maranello stable.

Aesthetically, the 330 GTC’s body combined the front end of the 400 Superamerica with the tapered tail of the 275 GTS Convertible. These features bookended a brand-new canopy design that had generous glass sections and slender A-pillars, imbuing sophistication. Mechanically, despite being defined as a luxurious road car, the GTC was engineered with substantial gravitas and rode on the same chassis as the race-ready 275 GTB Berlinetta.

The example we offer here was first delivered to Rome, Italy in January 1968, finished in the attractive colour combination of Argento Italver over Rosso, and registered as “Roma B55925”. In the 1970s the car was exported to the U.S. and by 1979 was offered for sale by Michael Severovich of Sugerland, Texas in the Ferrari Market Letter, having recently been repainted in red and fitted with a new black leather interior. In 1982 the car was repainted to black and had several owners in Texas and Georgia before returning to Europe in 1986.

Monsieur Petitjean acquired this car in 1987 from the Belgian collector, Edmond Perry, via his company, APAL. At the time it was grey in colour with a leather interior and was described as in good working worder. Under Monsieur Petitjean’s ownership he had the car repainted in yellow and equipped with Borrani wire wheels. While the steering wheel and transmission have been replaced at some point, the car retains its original engine. The Ferrari has remained on static display for a number of years, so a recommissioning programme is recommended prior to use.

Considered by many to be one of the last great vintage Ferrari grand touring coupes, only 598 examples were built before production concluded in 1968. The 330 GTC offers a truly fantastic driving experience, coupling practicality, luxury, and the performance one would expect from a 12-cylinder Ferrari.
