One of the stars of the Paris Motor Show in 1975, the new Ferrari 308 GTB, styled by Pininfarina’s design department, is without question one of the most emblematic designs to bear the Prancing Horse logo, with its inspiration drawn from the lines of the 512 BB and Dino 246 GT. Named 308 (“30” for its 3.0-litre engine capacity and “8” for 8 cylinders), it used the chassis of the Dino 308 GT4, but with a wheelbase shortened by 21cm (8.3in), and the same 255bhp engine. Particularly compact, low and streamlined, the 308 GTB immediately won over all the fans of the marque, as well as a wider audience. Until this time, the V8 Ferrari had been fed by four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. But the emission regulations in North America, Ferrari’s largest market, forced the manufacturer to change its entire range. In 1980, the 308’s V8 was fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic indirect fuel injection and fully electronic Marelli Digiplex ignition.
The model we are presenting is a 308 GTBi delivered new in France in October 1981. Purchased by its current owner in 1987, this Ferrari comes with a substantial folder of invoices which show that it has been regularly maintained in the Ferrari dealer network. This coupé is now in original, unrestored condition. Its body could do with being completely repainted, which would also provide the opportunity to return the car to its original blue colour. The interior has been reasonably well preserved and has an attractive patina. The engine was completely overhauled by Pozzi in 2004, when it had 124,862km (77,586 miles) recorded. The car is understood to have covered 143,650km (89,260 miles) today, meaning that it has done less than 19,000km (11,800 miles) since the engine was rebuilt. Recently, the Gauduel Ferrari dealership carried out maintenance work to prepare the car for its safety inspection for a total cost in excess of 4000 €. Offered for sale today at a very attractive estimated price, our 308 GTBi represents a great opportunity, and we have no doubt that it will find a new owner at this price!
This car will be sold during an auction sale organized by AGUTTES Auction House.
It will take place in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on March the 17th, 2019.
