FRANCIS STAUB COLLECTION

French registration papers
Chassis no. FB C188
- Clear history, delivered new to Neuilly-sur-Seine!
- In the same ownership for 40 years
- Reliable and fast
When the Facel III was launched, the late José Rosinski wrote: “In its category, the Facel III stands out for its exceptional standard of finish, individual styling and very safe handling ...”. With the arrival of the B18B engine and gearbox fitted to several Volvo models, you could begin to dream that the French company might at last recover from its financial difficulties. The successor to the Facellia, the Facel III was introduced and went on sale in April 1963, following the agreement signed between Facel Vega and Volvo, bringing the little Facel improved performance and reliability.
Our Facel III was delivered new to SIDAM, the dealer in Neuilly-sur-Seine, on 30 December 1963 and registered on 10 January 1964. Ordered by its first owner in Tudor grey with a black interior, it was fitted with the optional dashboard-mounted clock, wheel trims, overdrive and 4.56 axle ratio. Although we cannot be sure exactly how many owners it had during its first three years, thanks to the Amicale Facel we can be certain that it remained in the Paris area, with the registration number 3498 N 92, before taking its place in the garage of JC Marchetti in the Seine Saint-Denis department from 1967 to 1971 and then moving to another collector from 1971 to 2011, or 40 years! After he retired, he settled in Les Sables-d’Olonne and started to restore the car before selling it. In February 2011, it was purchased by a collector from the Toulouse area who began a complete restoration, which was completed in 2013. Appreciating the quality of the restoration and its fine condition, Francis Staub bought the car in July 2013.
The exterior of the car is irreproachable, and the interior and engine compartment are also in very fine condition. Its black leather interior is magnificent, as is the dashboard, which has been repainted. Behind the wheel, the atmosphere is cosy, the seats are comfortable and there is a pleasant impression of real space. The car is easy to drive, its engine and four-speed gearbox with overdrive moving it along at a good pace without ever catching out its chassis. Its brakes are well balanced and reassuring, while the steering is light. This is a Facel III which recaptures everything that made the French make a legend: prestige and exclusivity, a well-finished interior and elegant and original styling, as well as being reliable, comfortable and delivering good performance in its class. It is a great way to drive something different and the epitome of balanced design and elegance à la française.
