Launched in 1972, the 3.0 CSL was offered to the public to homologate the model for competition and soon made its presence felt in race series such as the European Touring Car Championship. By 1973 the model had received an update that brought with it an increase in displacement to 3.2 litres and a wild aerodynamic package that quickly earned it the nickname ‘Batmobile’.

Exactly 110 of these wild road-going vehicles were built from July 1973, followed by a second, smaller batch of cars that rolled off the production line between January 1974 and October 1975. Built on 17 October 1975, chassis 4355057 is the final example of these 57 second series cars to be produced, and was delivered to BMW dealer MOTAG in Zurich, Switzerland on 28 October 1975. It was registered on 1 December, and in April 1991 was still recorded as being in Switzerland.

This 3.0 CSL ‘Batmobile’ is finished in Chamonix White over a black interior, and is accompanied by a jack, owner’s manual, spare wheel, and wheel brace. Please note, after a prolonged period on static display as part of its consigning owner’s museum exhibition, buyers are encouraged to carry out a mechanical inspection before returning this car to the road. Additionally, it is believed that this vehicle is fitted with a replacement engine.
