Powered by BMW‘s celebrated four-cylinder M10 engine, the 2002 models featured fully independent suspension and front disc brakes. Sharing little in common with the rest of the line beyond power train, the sporty siblings caught auto enthusiasts‘ attention and established BMW as an international brand. Precursors to the famed BMW 3 Series, the two-doors‘ success cemented the firm‘s future as an upper tier performance car maker.
This BMW 2002 was prepared in England, primarily for use in hill climbing and track day events. Its bodywork has been altered to give room for wider wheels and tyres, and the engine has been tuned to give some 150 HP, equipped with open Weber carbs.
