Beschreibung
"Introduced at the 1959 London Motor Show, the Bentley S2 had a 200hp, V8 engine and, because of its alloy construction, weighed the same as the six-cylinder S1 it replaced. The S2’s driving manners were much improved with a Hydramatic transmission, upgraded power-assisted brakes, and power steering. Inside, the S2 had a new dashboard, incorporating updated gauges. As a sportier variant of the S2, the factory Continental model had upgraded brakes and higher rear axle ratio to handle the continent’s high-speed motorways. With a top speed of about 113mph, Continentals were consistently faster, quieter, and more comfortable than standard production cars. Bentley S2 Continentals were among the most luxurious, stylish, and desirable of all the Bentley variants. This stunning Bentley S2 was originally registered on 18th February 1961 and presents in beautiful condition throughout. Finished in the traditional colour combination of Velvet Green with St. James Red leather interior, the hand painted red coachline complements the colour combination superbly. The chromework is unblemished, this Bentley oozes quality, inspection of the panel gaps and shut lines confirm this is no ordinary Bentley Continental S2. With the curved walnut dash and armchair like seats, the cockpit area of this Bentley is almost like sitting inside a piece of furniture. The front seats are lightweight with tilting backs with Chapman wormgear adjustment for greater comfort. Only 97 Continentals were produced by Bentley and only 71 in right hand guise. An interesting history adorns this S2, including a copy of the original purchase order placed to Berkeley Square agent Jack Barclay by F&A Parkinson Ltd., an electrical engineer and manufacturing firm in Guiseley, Leeds, for their principal, Albert Parkinson. Records indicate that the Bentley was delivered in February 1961 and remained with Mr Parkinson for exactly six years, at which point it was sold back to the Jack Barclay. The second known owner, A.C.G. Billam of South Croydon, Surrey, acquired the car from Paddon Brothers in 1977, and it was maintained in their ownership by numerous marque specialists, including P&A Wood, for several years. To travel in a Bentley Continental S2 is a memorable experience, whether a passenger or driver. This magnificent example drives as well as it looks and comes with a V5C registration document, interesting early history folder and a complete set of the original tools, together with a handbook. One of the most stylish grand tourers ever produced."
