Beschreibung
1960 BANDINI FORMULE JUNIOR
Unregistered
Competition car
Chassis n° 57
• Much rarer and more exclusive than a Stanguellini
• Superb aluminium bodywork
• Only six survivors
Formula Junior was one of the categories which allowed beginners to get started in motorsport, and the regulations were framed in such a way as to keep costs low. The cars were built in Bandini’s workshop on the via Bertini in Forli, and most of them were exported to the United States through Biener in New York.
This was the case for eight cars, one or two remaining in Italy.
Six surviving cars are recorded. Ilario Bandini kept one car for himself, to take racing. This is the car presented here, chassis no. 57, which he kept from 1960 to 1992, when he sold or loaned it to the Museo dell’Automobile in San Marino. It remained there until 2000, when Dino Bandini reclaimed it. The racing history of chassis no. 57 can be reconstructed as follows, with some other drivers as well as Bandini himself:
1961 - Circuito di Cesenatico,
Ilario Bandini
1961 - Predappio – Rocca delle
Caminate, A. Canali, 3rd in class
1961 - Salita di Salsomaggiore – Monte S. Antonio, A. Canali 1962 - Vinci – S. Baronto, G. Lelli, 5th in class
1962 - Circuito di Cesenatico, A. Canali, 5th in class
1962 - Predappio – Rocca delle Caminate, A. Canali, 8th in class Dino had the single-seater restored at the start of the 2000s and intended to compete in historic events with it, going so far as having CSAI papers prepared. The car should perform very well when up against other Formula Junior single-seaters such as the Stanguellinis and should require only the usual modifications for this type of car to obtain its FIA papers.
