Beschreibung
The owner of this car had always wanted a Mini Sprint and, in 2009, decided to create a genuine Sprint for himself. With records indicating that only around 23 Mini Sprints were ever produced, this was to be a highly authentic and carefully engineered project. The search began for a suitable original Mini Cooper, eventually locating an example that had enjoyed just two former keepers during its first 40 years. This car was acquired as the basis for the project and entrusted to a highly experienced Mini Sprint conversion engineer and specialist company, renowned for having created Mini Sprints over a period of some 30 years. What followed was a two-year, open-cheque-book restoration, with no expense spared. The car was subjected to a comprehensive nut-and-bolt rebuild, resulting in the beautifully presented Sprint offered today. The roof was lowered by three inches and the body completely de-seamed, while the electrical system was renewed throughout. All ancillary components were either restored or replaced with new parts. Particular attention was paid to the engine, which was upgraded from the original 998cc specification to a high-performance 1,071cc unit. A new period-correct interior was installed to original specification, complemented by two new, highly comfortable bucket seats and twin fuel tanks. Many Mini Sprints were converted with Perspex windows; this example benefits from the considerably more expensive option of retaining full glass glazing throughout, further enhancing its usability and authentic appearance. The result is a correctly engineered Mk. II Mini Sprint, incorporating a remarkable array of period and specialist upgrades. Among the many features is a fully functioning Harry Moss 8-track player with speakers mounted beneath the rear parcel shelf. The car retains its original registration number and is accompanied by an extensive history file documenting its remarkable story. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a history file, together with a British Heritage Certificate. This is a particularly rare opportunity to acquire an original Austin Mini Cooper, transformed at considerable expense into a beautifully executed Mini Sprint. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
