Beschreibung
The DB6 MK II vantage was the crowning achievement of the DB6 series. Delivered in June 1971, chassis 4288 was one of only 62 cars produced to this ultimate specification, producing a reported 325 bhp with triple Weber carburettors coupled to a five speed ZF gearbox. The DB6 differed from its predecessors in having a longer wheelbase than that of the DB5 which gave more room for rear passengers along with a higher roof line and an aerodynamically efficient ‘kamm’ tail.
This matching numbers example was supplied new to Mr Chadwick in Sheffield. Chadwick owned the car for a year before it subsequently passed through the hands of renowned collectors, Reg Parker and Anthony Bamford. The extensive history file with correspondence from previous owners shows that in 1990 the colour was changed to Salisbury blue at which point the mileage was just 41000 miles. The previous custodian acquired the car in 2000 and further improved what was importantly regarded at his time of purchase as a very good example. Some of these extensive works carried out by marque experts Aston Engineering included but not limited to engine enhancements to 4.2 Litres and a gearbox overhaul, front and rear suspension rebuild, rear axle and differential strip and rebuild. When the present owner bought 4288 in 2013 he felt that it deserved being maintained in the same fashion and he entrusted Aston Martin Works to carry out a very extensive programme of works at great expense. These included a bare metal colour change to the highly attractive Winchester blue and the interior fully re-trimmed in Connolly Parchment with beige Wilton carpets. The sills were replaced and any remedial chassis work carried out and all chrome and brightwork refurbished.
With very few miles completed since these restorative works were finished it really is in superb condition throughout. Freshly serviced in 2020 so truly ‘ready to go’ for the next owner, this Mk II Vantage is an absolute classic.
