It is near impossible to mention a DB5 without associating it with the secret agent that found himself behind the wheel of one in the 1964 film Goldfinger.

Little did Aston Martin know at the time that that vehicle would be forever linked with 007 and his exploits, and, in the process, the DB5 is considered by many as “The Most Famous Car in the World.”

It would make many return appearances in future James Bond films.

Introduced in July 1963, the Aston Martin DB5 represented a further evolution of the preceding DB4 series rather than the beginning of an entirely new model line.

Superior materials were used in manufacture, such as aluminum-alloy body panels mounted over a skeleton of small-diameter tubing, which was patented by Touring of Milan as Superleggera construction.

Its race-proven engine was also made of aluminum, including both the block and its twin-cam hemispherical cylinder head.

The interior was upholstered in the finest Connolly leather, which was complemented by deep-pile Wilton carpets.

There was a certain innocence to product placement in the early sixties. Incorporating a brand or product into a movie probably just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Eon Productions – having been spurned by Jaguar – turned their attentions to Aston Martin to provide the ‘daily driver’ for MI6 agent, James Bond… the rest is more than just history.

The 1964 Bond film, ‘Goldfinger’, made the DB5 one of the most famous cars of all time. Unsurprising as what man wouldn’t want to drive a beautiful car and imagine themselves as a wayward secret agent and all round ladies man.

With the DB5 being resurrected in the latest James Bond movie ‘Skyfall’ it has further cemented the DB5’s significance in both cult history and also in motoring history.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

This rare DB5 was newly delivered in Paris on the 25th of January 1964.

The first owner who took delivery of the car was a Mr. Le Blanc of Paris.

Is a very early saloon chassis off the production line and is one of few factory Left-Hand-Drive examples built.

This example has remained in France almost all its life, the car has enjoyed only a few owners, the second of whom kept the car for 32 years, from February 1968 until August 2000 when it was purchased by the French owner who sold it in 2007 via RM Auction in Montecarlo.

Between 2007 and 2020 the car has been owned by a large collector of Aston Martin’s.

This example has the desirable ZF five-speed gearbox and is finished in the original color of Champagne with original black interior.

This is a unique example of a DB5. Never completely restored, this highly authentic Aston Martin retains the majority of its original mechanical components, including the factory-equipped matching-numbers engine.

It may be enjoyed and driven as is, or considered a straightforward candidate for a full concours restoration.

The Aston Martin is currently in running order.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

This Aston Martin is not a trailer queen but a very original example. The car has been resprayed a long time ago in the original color.

The body seems very nice but work is needed on the underside of the car.

The chrome is nice and in original condition and shows a beautiful patina.

We would personally respray the car and leave the rest of the car in the current condition.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior of the Aston Martin is absolutely unique and fantastic.

The interior is fully original and still in beautiful condition. Imagine that the first owner who collected this car in 1965 from the dealer was sitting on the same leather.

Nice isn’t it?

The DB5 has a beautiful patinated interior that can never be achieved when an interior is renewed.

The smell by opening the door is fabulous and typically english. A typical Connolly leather smell is reaching the nose immediately and this smell starts immediately the emotion of driving and using the DB5.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The Aston Martin runs. A compression and cylinder leakage test has been carried out and the result is very good.

The car is in need of technical attention. The car needs a very good and extensive service.

But if this is done it will be a very nice driving original left hand drive Aston Martin DB5 which is very unique.
