- Bought new by the late Viscount Downe, President of the AMOC
- Extensive body-off restoration by R.S. Williams in 2017

Built in 1962 and delivered in March of the same year, the factory build sheet for 913/R shows it was built for The Hon. John Dawnay, who would later become Viscount Downe and go on to be president of the Aston Martin Owner’s Club in 1980. The build sheet for 913/R makes very interesting reading, specified with the highly desirable SS (Special Series) engine with its triple SU carburettors and POWR LOK limited slip differential, this car was fitted with a long list of desirable and interesting extras out of the factory, these included: Overdrive, heated rear screen, rear speaker, DB4 GT instrument panel with oil temp and air operated horn in lieu of standard horn. Clearly a car specified to be enjoyed and driven, the service record shows that by October of 1962 913/R had already covered more than 12,000 miles in just 6 months.

The original 1962 vehicle registration book shows that 913/R was kept and cherished by its first owner for more than 10 years, before being sold to its second owner, Mr Richard Barton in November 1973, who entrusted RS Williams to maintain the car throughout his 10 years of ownership. In more recent years 913/R has been a fixture in various classic car events and rallies including the Norwich Union Classic (twice), MSA Euro Classic (three times) and Les Trois Epis rally and hill climb (in 2010).

In 2017 913/R’s latest owner entrusted R.S. Williams to restore their DB4 and give it a new lease of life in preparation for extensive tours and events they wished to use this car for. This was a meticulous body-off restoration to bring 913/R up to the exact requirements that our client desired for their grad touring plans. This included rebuilding the engine up to 4.7Litre R.S. Williams specification and a respray and retrim to California Sage over Tan Connolly leather. A full mechanical overhaul and many other upgrades were made to the car as well as extensive road testing to get the car feeling right from a handling and dynamics point of view.

With a storied history all the way back to 913/R’s manufacture and artifacts such as the original owner’s instruction book and original 1962 Registration Book in the car’s folder, along with its recent restoration this DB4 Series IV marks a fantastic opportunity for a collector or enthusiast to acquire a true British icon of the early 1960s motoring scene in an immaculate state, meaning the new owner can rest assured that this DB4 is ready to be driven away and enjoyed from the off.

All sales are complete with a full 12-month parts and labour guarantee. A fine example ready to be driven and enjoyed. Purchase with peace of mind from one of the world’s most renowned Aston Martin experts.
