Launched at the London Motor Show in 1958, the Aston Martin DB4 emphatically demonstrated that a British manufacturer could better the Italians at their own game when it came to constructing the ultimate Gran Turismo. Classically proportioned and instantly recognisable from the moment of its introduction, the Touring-styled DB4 established a look that would survive, with only relatively minor revisions, until 1970.

"Following in the classic tradition of close-coupled sports saloons, the 3.7-litre DB4 Aston Martin carries orthodox modernity to its highest pitch. A luxurious two-seat saloon which can carry four adults when necessary, it recorded almost 140mph as a two-way mean speed over the measured mile. Yet we were able to record acceleration figures from 10mph in the same gear ratio," reported The Motor magazine before concluding: "Performance, controllability and comfort have been combined in the Aston Martin DB4 to make it a highly desirable car: one in which long journeys can be completed very quickly indeed with the minimum of risk or discomfort and the maximum of pleasure."
Manufactured between October 1958 and June 1963, the DB4 developed through five series, the first of which had already undergone a number of improvements before the second series arrived in January 1960, a front-hinged bonnet, bigger brake callipers and an enlarged sump being the major changes made.

This left-hand drive Series 2 DB4 was delivered new to the USA via the Aston Martin importer J S Inskip and first owned by one Howard C Smith of Oyster Bay, Long Island. The accompanying copy guarantee form reveals that the car was originally finished in Snow Shadow Grey with red Connolly leather trim, and that it left the factory equipped with a rear demister; spark plug holder; driver's side wing mirror; Marchal Equilux headlamps; and fitted suitcases in ivory Luxan hide.

'467/L' remained in the same family's hands until it was sold to a German company in 1998. Restored in Germany that same year, the car next changed hands in 2001 following its owner's bankruptcy. While in the new owner's hands the DB4 took part in the Rallye de Monte Carlo Historique (2004 and 2006) and finished 3rd in the Rallye de Paris in 2005. A few years later, in February 2008, the Aston was offered for sale at Bonhams' Paris auction (Lot 136). At that time, the car came with a history file containing numerous invoices for works carried out both in Germany and the UK, but unfortunately it has since been lost. The car is offered with a Swedish I.D. form; a copy of the workshop manual; a jack and its spare wheel. With the odometer showing 44.562 kilometres, this Aston-Martin DB4 would benefit from some minor aesthetic work and would be good rally competitor with some mechanical work

Lancée au Salon de Londres en 1958, l'Aston Martin DB 4 démontrait avec panache que les constructeurs anglais pouvaient battre les Italiens à leur propre jeu quand il s'agissait de Grand Tourisme ultime. Avec ses proportions classiques, instantanément identifiable comme telle dès sa présentation, la carrosserie de la DB 4 dessinée par Touring établissait un style qui allait caractériser la marque, avec seulement quelques retouches mineures, jusqu'en 1970.
« Reprenant la tradition bien établie du coupé sportif compact, l'Aston Martin DB 4 3,7 litres porte la modernité à son point culminant. Ce luxueux coupé deux places qui peut emporter quatre adultes si nécessaire, atteignit presque les 225 km/h sur le mile (1,61 km) aller-retour chronométré. Qui plus est, nous avons pu enregistrer les reprises à partir de 16 km/h en restant sur le même rapport », indiquait le magazine The Motor, avant de conclure : « Performances, tenue de route et confort sont intimement associés sur l'Aston Martin DB 4 pour en faire la plus séduisante des voitures. Une de celles avec laquelle on peut entreprendre de longs périples à grande vitesse avec le minimum de risque et d'inconfort et le maximum de plaisir ».
Construite d'octobre 1958 à juin 1963, la DB4 a connu cinq séries, la première ayant déjà reçu quelques améliorations avant l'avènement de la seconde en janvier 1960, un capot articulé à l'avant, de plus gros étriers de freins et un carter agrandi étant les principaux changements.

Cette DB4 série 2 à conduite à gauche a été livrée neuve aux États-Unis par l'importateur Aston Martin J. S. Inskip et a appartenu à un certain Howard C. Smith d'Oyster Bay, à Long Island. La fiche de garantie qui l'accompagne révèle que la voiture était alors Snow Shadow Grey avec un intérieur en cuir Connolly rouge et qu'elle a quitté l'usine équipée d'un dégivrage arrière, d'un logement pour les bougies, d'un rétroviseur sur l'aile avant gauche, de phares Marchal Equilux et de valises sur mesure en cuir Luxan ivoire.

467/L est restée dans la même famille jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit vendue à une société allemande en 1998. Restaurée en Allemagne cette même année, elle n'a changé de mains qu'en 2001. Aux mains du nouveau propriétaire la DB4 a pris part au Rallye de Monte-Carlo historique (2004 et 2006) se comportant parfaitement et a terminé 3e au Rallye de Paris en 2005. Trois années plus tard, en février 2008, l'Aston fut proposée à la vente Bonhams de Paris (Lot 136) et acquise par son actuel propriétaire qui l'a remisée. La voiture est vendue avec des papiers suédois, une copie du manuel d'atelier, le cric et roue de secours. Le compteur de la voiture montre 44.562 kilomètres, Cette Aston-Martin DB4 pourrait bénéficier de quelques légers travaux esthétiques et pourrait être une bonne participante de rallye avec quelques travaux mécaniques. Les taxes d'importation devront être acquittées si la voiture reste en Suisse.
