Following on from the highly successful 1 ½ litre cars, Aston-Martin changed to producing 2 litre cars in 1936. The 15/98 model was designed as a collaboration between Aston-Martins long serving designer Claude Hill and R G Sutherland. The 15/98 is a four cylinder, single overhead camshaft design as per the 1 ½ litre cars but with the flow of the head reversed and with a wet sump. A Moss gearbox was bought in for this car along with very effective Girling rod brakes. The overall design of the chassis and particularly the front suspension gives this car exceptionally good handling and very smooth ride qualities. The 15/98 is an extremely comfortable and swift car over long distances.

This exceptional example of a 15/98 was built in 1938. Records of this car, including build sheets, exist in the AMOC Register along with some early ownership details. The car spend much of its life as part of a collection in W. Germany thought to be owned by a Dr Brandt. It was recorded by AMOC as still in Germany in 1984. In 1988 the car was at Morntane Engineering (now Ecurie Bertelli) and shortly afterward they began a full nut and bolt restoration with no expense spared for the new owner Mr Mike Bagworth. This was completed in 1991/92 and a full comprehensive photographic record of the work was compiled during the restoration which is available for inspection and with the car. Since then the current owner (from 2007) has used the car regularly in the summer months including Angouleme, Pau and Chinon and many AMOC concours gatherings whilst keeping the car in the most fantastic condition. The car is also registered with the VSCC and has a standard buff form.

Ecurie Bertelli have completed a very thorough schedule of maintenance this winter which include a suspension re-build, brake re-build, engine maintenance, replacement exhaust system and an upgrade to a Speed Model clutch system.
