Beschreibung
The 1600 Junior Zagato was presented at the Turin Motor Show in November 1972. Unlike its predecessor, the 1300, which was based on a shortened version of the Spyder, the 1600 used the 1600 Spyder's underframe directly; the 1600 Zagato was slightly longer, had a more sloping roofline and a redesigned rear panel. These changes improved aerodynamics as well as functionality. The 1600 cc engine increased power output from 87 hp to 108 hp, while interior improvements included a wood metal spoke steering wheel and an integrated horn button.
The interior is relatively spacious, with a flat storage area behind the driver and front passenger seats and ample luggage space, making the car highly practical. The exterior design, unadorned with chrome or badges, has such an edgy appeal that fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent used the Junior Z in his advertising. Ultimately, 1108 Junior Z 1300s and 402 1600s (various theories) were produced.
This Bianco 1600 Junior Z was imported to Japan in 1984. Unfortunately, the ownership history since then is unknown.
The engine is AR00526/A and is believed to be for a Giulia Super 1.6.
The body has been repainted in the original colour, giving it a sharp impression although the exact repainted date is not known.
The seats are in leather, which were an option at the time. The interior is not concours condition, but it retains good atmosphere of original. The original floor mats (excluding the boot) come with the car.
The car had major treatments last year, replacing new clutch, upper arm bushes, lower ball joints, end boots, front brake pads, fan belt, transmission mounts, etc, the tachometer is overhauled. The engine starts smoothly and idles perfectly.
The car is ready for daily use.
