Beschreibung
1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint Speciale
French registration document
Chassis no. 380585 –
Owned by its current owner for over 30 years
- Original French
- A ‘Haute Couture’ design signed Bertone.
Finding the Sprint's design too heavy, Bertone worked on a more aerodynamic version in a small series to gain a few precious km/h for the Giulietta. The ‘Sprint Speciale’ series appeared in 1959 and remained in the brand's catalogue for seven years. It was a real stylistic success, with a bold design that was unlike anything else on the market. Produced in Giulietta (1300) and Giulia (1600) versions, with 1,366 units built, the 1600 was the rarest and most sought-after, with only 114 models manufactured. With its bold, streamlined lines by Franco Scaglione and a very low drag coefficient, its engine allows it to reach speeds of almost 200 km/h, despite its weight resulting from its heavy steel bodywork. The car we are presenting was delivered new in France and registered in January 1964. This car, whose design can only be described with superlatives, has been in the hands of its current owner since 1993. A prominent member of the Alfa Romeo Club France, the car has been maintained by the best specialists with the aim of owning a high-performance car for all club outings and other events. Our Alfa Romeo is in beautiful condition. The bodywork, treated with Dinitrol in 1993, does not appear to have suffered from the passage of time and is adorned with Rosso Chiaro, giving beautiful depth to the flowing lines of the bodywork. The beige leather interior has a beautiful patina. The engine was overhauled by AB Racing garage for over £7,000 in 2021, as evidenced by its conclusive road test. The gearbox was overhauled and the clutch replaced in 2021 for over £3,500 (invoices available). The car has a maintenance history dating back to 1993, demonstrating the care and attention it has received. This history will be available for inspection by any interested buyer, as will the current expert report. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a prestigious model with a unique design and remarkable presentation.
