This unique (because only 998 cars were produced) Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTC comes directly from Italy. The beautiful convertible was brought to the Netherlands at the end of 2017 to become part of a beautiful collection of Alfa Romeo's.

First, Alfa Romeo specialist and former Alfa dealer Valk from Rijssen was asked to make the car completely perfect. Everything has been checked extensively and repaired or replaced where necessary. The available invoices show that in addition to the usual maintenance, the cylinder head was completely overhauled including new valves, the engine block was fitted with new bearings and piston rings, the propshaft was renewed, the rear axle was overhauled, the gearbox was overhauled, including the synchromesh rings. The electrical system was also checked where necessary and the starter motor was overhauled. The suspension was not forgotten and, among other things, fitted with new wishbones and ball joints. The installation of new tires and exhaust made the GTC completely up to date.

The bodywork had already been thoroughly restored in Italy before the purchase. Considering the photos available, the car was not that bad, but it did deserve a professional bodywork restoration. It can be seen in a minute that this was a success. Connoisseurs immediately pay attention to the perfectly fitting seams of the sills, doors and fenders. There is not a millimeter wrong with this. Everything fits really perfectly. The sheet metal is also very sleek and beautifully painted. The interior is largely original and in beautiful condition, as are the black mohair soft top and hood cover.

The GTC is therefore in optimal condition in terms of technology, interior and bodywork. What remains is the chrome work all around. Everything is beautiful, except the not very sleek rear bumper. We've seen nicer ones before. Maybe we're exaggerating a bit and you won't notice it at all, but we like to see perfection.

We can extend that perfection to the driving of the car, because that is truly a revelation. Italian Car Specialist Valk has once again confirmed its good name because the Alfa steers, brakes and runs fantastic. It takes effort and money, but you will also enjoy this investment for years to come. It is truly an astonishing and wonderful feeling that a car, in this case over 58 years old, drives so perfectly and has no trouble keeping up with normal traffic. In fact, if you want, you can show the back of the GTC to many cars. But just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should do it. The optimal enjoyment is of course being able to drive with the top down in one of the most beautiful convertibles designed by Carrozzeria Touring. And the enjoyment doesn't stop behind the front seats, because if you have children, a great back seat is the right place to give them an education in "car enthusiast style". In our opinion, you can't start early enough with this.

We almost forgot to mention that this GTC, and the stiff bodywork and, as a result, the excellent road holding is largely due to this, is from a later series where additional reinforcements were added to the bottom to reduce the torsion of the bodywork to a minimum. Detail…, but not unimportant.

Deze unieke (want er zijn slechts 998 stuks geproduceerd) Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTC is rechtstreeks afkomstig uit Italië. De fraaie cabriolet werd eind 2017 naar Nederland gehaald om deel uit te gaan maken van een prachtige collectie Alfa Romeo’s.

Eerst werd Alfa Romeo specialist en oud Alfa dealer Valk uit Rijssen gevraagd de auto helemaal perfect te maken. Hierbij is alles zeer uitgebreid gecheckt, en waar nodig gerepareerd of vervangen. De aanwezig facturen wijzen uit dat naast het gebruikelijke onderhoud onder andere de cilinderkop volledig werd gereviseerd inclusief nieuwe kleppen, het onderblok voorzien werd van nieuwe lagers en zuigerveren, de cardanas werd vernieuwd, de achteras werd gereviseerd, de versnellingsbak werd gereviseerd waarbij o.a. de synchromeshringen werden vervangen. Ook werd waar nodig het elektrisch systeem nagezien en de startmotor gereviseerd. Het onderstel werd niet vergeten en o.a. voorzien van nieuwe draagarmen en fuseekogels. De montage van nieuwe banden en uitlaat maakten de GTC wwer helemaal up to date.

De carrosserie was voor de aanschaf al flink onder handen genomen in Italië. Gezien de hiervan aanwezige foto’s was de auto niet eens zo heel slecht, maar verdiende wel een professionele carrosserie restauratie. Dat dat goed gelukt is, is in een oogopslag te zien. Kenners letten meteen op de perfect passende naden van de kokers, portieren en spatborden. Hier mankeert geen millimeter aan. Alles past echt perfect. Ook is het plaatwerk erg strak en heel mooi gespoten. Het interieur is grotendeels origineel en in een prachtige staat, evenals de zwarte mohair softtop en hoodcover.

De GTC is dus qua techniek, interieur en carrosserie in optimale staat. Blijft over het chroomwerk rondom. Alles is prachtig, behalve de niet erg strakke achterbumper. Daar hebben we wel eens mooiere van gezien. Misschien overdrijven we een beetje en valt het u helemaal niet op, maar wij zien nu eenmaal graag perfectie.

Die perfectie kunnen we wel doortrekken naar het rijden van de auto, want dat is echt een openbaring. Italiaans Auto Specialist Valk heeft zijn goede naam hierin weer eens bevestigd want de Alfa stuurt, remt en loopt fantastisch. Het kost moeite en geld, maar dan heb je ook jarenlang plezier van deze investering. Het is echt een verbazingwekkend en tegelijkertijd heerlijk gevoel dat een auto, van in dit geval ruim 58 jaar oud, zo perfect rijdt, en geen enkele moeite heeft in het normale verkeer mee te komen. Sterker nog, als je wilt kunt je nog heel wat auto’s de achterkant van de GTC laten zien. Maar dat het kan, hoeft nog niet te betekenen dat je het moet doen. Het optimale genieten is natuurlijk het open kunnen rijden in een van de fraaiste door Carrozzeria Touring ontworpen cabriolets. En het genieten houdt niet bij de voorstoelen op, want hebt u kinderen, dan is een prima achterbank de juiste plek ze een opvoeding in ”autoliefhebbersstijl” mee te geven. Daar kun je niet vroeg genoeg mee beginnen naar onze mening.

Vergeten we bijna om te vertellen dat deze GTC, en daar is ook voor een belangrijk deel de stijve carrosserie en ten gevolge hiervan de geweldige wegligging aan te wijten, van een latere serie is waarbij extra verstevigingen aan de bodem werden doorgevoerd om de torsie van de carrosserie tot een minimum te beperken. Detail…, maar niet onbelangrijk.

Zoekt u een 4-persoons Italiaanse klassieke cabriolet, die niet alleen waardevast is, maar waarbij vooral uitstraling, betrouwbaarheid, bruikbaarheid en het gemakkelijk rijden een must is, dan is deze 1965'er Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTC toch zeker een auto om u verder over te laten voorlichten.
